And How They Can Change Your Life

Have you ever had the experience of thinking about someone and then running into them in some random place? Have you ever thought about something and then found answers popping up all around you?

I have the extremely good fortune to live in Silicon Valley and I like to walk at least two miles every morning. I venture out when the streets are empty and the sound of birds singing fills the air. The early morning fog is sometimes still lingering and I feel connected to everything around me.

During these sacred moments, I’ve had exceptional experiences. I would like to share with you five things I’ve learned from these walks with the universe.

1. The Universe Is Always Listening

One morning as I was walking downtown and feeling thankful for my health, I started to consider what actions I could take to improve my physical condition. I turned to a window to see myself and the word Pear appeared above my reflection.

Typically, I’m not a fan of comparing women’s shapes to fruit, but, I have to admit that the photo was accurate. The whole incident made me laugh and renew my intention to get into better shape.

2. The Universe Has A Sense Of Humor

I told a few people about my previous experience with the Pear but mostly forgotten about implementing the changes to my diet that I had intended to make. And then one day, this Hippo image appeared directly in front of me!

I’ve walked these streets for years and never seen this sign. It’s probably a real company but on this particular morning, I couldn’t stop laughing at the outrageous lengths the universe will go to deliver its message!

3. The Universe Is Benevolent And Full Of Encouragement

We have an abundance of Little Free Library boxes in our town where people can share books. On this particular morning, I was feeling emotionally and physically exhausted. Despite the cosmic nudges from the Pear and the Hippo, I was overextended and still not taking care of myself.

Indeed, I found a stunningly accurate description of myself on the first few pages of the Nice Girls Finish Fat book, as well as some ideas on how to achieve the changes I was hoping to make. I was filled with a sense of gratitude for the persistence of the universe for not giving up on me. I was also amused as I thought that the universe had really upped its game with the book title!

4. The Universe is Beautiful

I started to wonder if the universe was only showing me things that I was focusing on. I wanted to start sharing more of my stories but I was feeling insecure and vulnerable. As I walked I noticed the diversity and abundance of flowers all around me. I noticed the tightly closed buds of flowers and thought how the world would miss out on their beauty if they never dared to open and bloom.

And then I passed a whole row of Bird of Paradise Flowers! Their colors are bold. They look quirky and fun! They are gangly and unapologetically asymmetrical! They made me smile. I decided that I didn’t want to be a bud that was too frightened to show itself to the world. I would rather take a chance and be a fabulously unconventional flower. I laughed and thanked the universe again.

5. The Universe Is Love

When I started looking for positive signs, the universe delivered. I saw hearts and stars and love everywhere. I saw the world was love and we are the world. The message was clear. We are love and we are loved.

How can these lessons change your life? Be clear about your focus. What thoughts are you allowing yourself to be concerned about? If the universe is listening to you, what do you want it to hear?

Laugh. I don’t know who or what created us, but I am extremely thankful for the gift of humor.

Believe that the universe is benevolent and wants the best for you.

Look for signs of beauty and don’t be afraid to be beautiful.

Love. It’s all around us and it's infinite. What if the only reason we have come to earth is to learn about love? What would you do differently while you have the chance?

I hope these messages from the universe help you listen, laugh, feel more optimistic, see more beauty, and feel more love.
